History of Luxury Brands

Hi everyone and welcome to the first post of this blog dedicated to luxury bags! In fact, many brands are present on the luxury market such as the handbag designers Chanel, Hermes, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Goyard, Fendi, Versace etc.. They are all major luxury brands specializing in fashion, leather goods and fragrances. First of all, let's retrace the history of some of these luxury industry brands.

Chanel, the French luxury was created in 1910 by Gabrielle Chanel better known as Coco Chanel. She started creating bags in 1927, her idea was to create practical and elegant bags for women. At the beginning, she created 3 of them:

  • A hard-wearing day bag made of lambskin
  • A silk satin bag
  • A jersey evening bag

1955: creation of the 2.55
1983 : Karl Lagerfeld took over the Chanel company. In the same year, the Timeless bag was launched.
2010: creation of the Boy bag by Karl Lagerfeld

Hermes, luxury fashion brand, was founded by Thierry Hermes in 1837. The luxury brand started creating Hermes bags in 1892, the first was the "haut à Courroies ", a leather bag designed for riders.
1923 : creation of the "Torpedo" bag to be placed in a car door.
1935: creation of the Kelly bag for riders to carry their equestrian equipment.
1984 : creation of the Birkin bag due to the meeting between Jane Birkin and the president of Hermes, their goal was to create an elegant and practical bag for mothers.
Hermes was therefore a company known for its horse riding equipment but was able to diversify its activities into leather goods and especially luxury bags.

Dior, luxury fashion house, was created in 1846 by the couturier Christian Dior and Marcel Boussac.
1994: creation of the Lady Dior handbag
2000 : creation of the Saddle bag which is a bag in the shape of a horse's saddle
2006 : creation of the Gaucho bag which is no longer produced since 2009
2010: creation of the Miss Dior bag
2018: creation of the Tote Book

The brand luxury Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris. At first Louis Vuitton created mainly luggage, especially trunks, which made the company successful at the time.
1896: creation of the LV monogram
1930: creation of the Speedy bag
1987: merger of Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy to form the LVMH group, a leader in luxury goods.
